Our Staff

The Strong Mountain Kung Fu staff is here to make your training safe, effective, and enjoyable. Training can be tough but it is highly rewarding and you will find that everyone here has your needs in mind.  Besides Shifu Glen Moore Strong Mountain Kung Fu has three other staff instructors: Shifu Eric Lawman and John Stark and Tim Wittenauer.

Staff Instructors

Shifu Glen D. Moore is the owner and head instructor of Strong Mountain Kung Fu School LLC.  Shifu Moore has over 45 years of martial arts experience in several different styles from China, the Philippines, Japan and Korea.  He is also a lineage disciple and a Senior Level Instructor under Master Bok Nam Park's system, Blue Dragon Ba Gua Zhang.

Shifu Moore retired from Virginia Power in 2000 where he was a Senior Instructor in the mechanical department at Power Operations Training Center in Chesterfield. He developed, wrote and taught many training programs for Power Operations.

Shifu Moore is  a Senior Instructor in the internal art of Ba Gua Zhang, a National Board Certified Massage Therapist, a certified Jin Shin Do Acupressurist, a Reiki Master, and a licensed Touch for Health Kinesiology instructor and practitioner.  He teaches Ba Gua Zhang and its associated Qi Gong, which is a branch of Chinese medicine.  Shifu is also the instructor of the stick and knife fighting that is offered at Strong Mountain Kung Fu School.

He studied with the survivalist, Tom Brown, and incorporates Native American philosophy, teaching methods  and survival skills into the curriculum.

Shifu Moore teaches many of the classes offered at the school and is nearly always present to answer questions and to guide students’ practice.

Shifu Eric Lawman has been practicing Ba Gua Zhang since 1998 and is a licensed instructor in both Ba Gua Zhang and Qi Gong. Eric is also a lineage disciple in the Ch’iang Shan Ba Gua Zhang Association. Eric teaches many of the Qi Gong and fundamentals classes at the school and is always working on improving his skills and knowledge in the art.

Shifu John Stark had been practicing Ba Gua Zhang since 1991. He is a licensed Qi Gong instructor and a lineage disciple in the Ch’iang Shan Ba Gua Zhang Association. John also leads some of the Qi Gong classes at Strong Mountain. He is very knowledgeable about principles and theories of Ba Gua Zhang Qi Gong. 

 

Tim Wittenauer has been a student since 2002.  He is a lineage disciple in the Ch'iang Shan Ba Gua Zhang association and is a licensed Ba Gua Zhang instructor.  Tim is a licensed physical therapist and owns a highly successful practice, Advanced Physical Therapy, located in Midlothian, VA. Program Director

Roni Mattera, a student since 2004, was formerly a National Board Certified high school teacher in Chesterfield County.  Roni is now a National Board Certified Massage therapist, Reiki Master/teacher and a level 4 Touch for Health Kinesiology practitioner.  She is pursuing certification as an acupressurist.  For more details or to make an appointment see her website at http://www.RichmondVaHealingMassage.com Roni also leads a morning Women's Qi Gong class.

Senior Students

Andrew Baker has been a student since 2001.  He takes his practice seriously and has great enthusiasm for his art.  He is an active senior student who is available to help our newer students with their practice.  Andrew is a willing assistant with a strong background in the fundamentals of Ba Gua Zhang.

 

Jim Riddle a student since 1993, enjoys assisting with many of the classes and is always willing to help students with questions they may have.  Jim has also studied other martial arts form Okinawa, Philippines and Burma.  He is a wealth of fundamental information and guidance.

 

 

Ryan Duffy a student since 2007, graduated from University of Richmond with a B.A. in psychology and recently received a Master's degree in Gerontology from VCU.  Ryan is a great asset to the school and provides much assistance during classes.  He also helps with individual instruction for beginner students.  Ryan is currently desigining a Qi Gong program for older adults.  His goals are to help seniors achieve better health and to lead a more active lifestyle so they can remain independant and able into their later years.   

Victoria Balloon, a student since 2006 helps to lead a Womens' Morning Qi Gong class.  She is a dedicated student with a great spirit and a willingness to help with Qi Gong classes.
